What equipment do I need?

Mat work classes are highly effective classes that use minimal equipment working your own body weight against gravity. All you require is a mat, and comfortable clothing that can allow you to move freely, (ideally not too baggy to enable your teacher to see how you move!) This also allows you to practise at home easily!!

There is no need for shoes. You will soon learn how your foot placement on the floor can impact your whole body!

In class you may be given a head cushion to help attain good alignment. All small equipment used will be provided for.

Group Class Information

Pilates Group Mat Work Classes

Small classes where individual attention is given in a tailored programme.  Small equipment such as the toning circle and ball may be provided in class. The equipment may be used to challenge strength and balance or to assist in releasing tension; it can also give valuable feedback to help you achieve a movement.

In detail…

Trowbridge Pilates Mat Work Classes all last an hour with a maximum of 12 participants. The class warm-up starts with gentle mobilisation of all the joints bringing focus to the ABC’s of Pilates in your own body – Alignment, Breathing and Centring – giving you time to forget your worries of the day and appreciate some ‘me time’! Moving into various starting positions such as prone (lying on your front), four-point kneeling, side-lying, and standing, incorporating movement in all directions.

All classes are pre-planned specifically for those in the class and change week to week. You can expect demonstrations of the exercises followed by observation and correction if necessary. Progression from a beginner’s class brings in the extra challenge of flow requiring more stamina and concentration. Therefore, if you are not joining a beginner class a 1-1 is recommended first.

You might not leave class sweating but you will leave knowing you have worked all those wee often forgotten muscles, feeling taller, more flexible, and better in yourself.

In detail…

High Intensity Power Pilates classes lasts 50 minutes, and typically consist of a warm-up, a High Intensity Section lasting approximately 35 mins, followed by a 10 min mat work section and then stretches.

The High Intensity section alternates between Squat, Plank and Lunge sequences. Over the course of the five-week block the exercises will remain relatively unchanged, although more complex progressions may be offered. This is to encourage precise technique, and the repetition allowing familiarity to increase speed building up strength and stamina. You will feel your heart pumping in this class!

HIP Pilates® Classes

(HIP = High Intensity Power)
